How Our Online Jewellery Evaluation Works

User Submission

At Maxi-Cash, we’ve streamlined the process of submitting your jewellery for online appraisal. Simply visit our website, click on “E-Valuation,” and provide your contact information, a description of your item, and minimum 2 images of your item. All images submitted should be photographed next to a Singapore coin to help our appraisers assess your item’s value accurately. Sample images can be viewed on the E-Valuation page.

Preliminary Assessment

Once you have submitted all the required information, our team of professional appraisers will carefully examine your jewellery item. Using factors such as the quality of the materials, rarity, age, and condition of your jewellery, they will be able to provide a preliminary assessment of its worth and value. They may also note if the piece requires additional testing or evaluation to obtain a comprehensive valuation.

Receive Evaluation Estimate

Upon completion of the online appraisal, you will receive an initial evaluation estimate. Our valuation service aims to provide you with an estimation of the fair market value of your jewellery item. As all prices quoted are estimates, customers are welcome to visit any Maxi-Cash outlet near you for a more comprehensive valuation or to complete any transactions.

Factors Considered in Jewellery Evaluation

Type of Metal

The type of metal used in a piece of jewellery, be it gold, platinum, or silver, plays a significant role in its valuation. Durability, purity, shine, and affordability are just some of the reasons why a certain metal may be used in a piece, thereby affecting its value.

Purity of Metal

The purity of a metal plays a crucial role in the valuation of jewellery. When it comes to gold, for example, its purity is measured in karats. The higher the karat, the purer the gold. 24K gold (also known as 999 gold) contains 99.9% gold and is considered the purest possible grade of gold. On the other hand, 916 gold or 22K gold is slightly less pure but still highly regarded for fine jewellery. Whereas lower karats like 18K or 10K gold are less pure but even more durable, making them a common choice for everyday wearable jewellery.

Weight

Weight, as typically measured in grams or ounces, plays a significant role in jewellery valuation as it directly affects the value and durability of the piece. For precious metals like gold, the higher the weight, the more valuable the piece is likely to be.
Moreover, the weight of the metal also impacts its durability and longevity. While pure gold is prized for its softness and malleability, it is also more susceptible to wear and tear. Adding other metals, known as alloys, to the gold increases its strength and makes it less prone to scratches and dents.

Condition

A well-maintained item in excellent condition will typically fetch a higher price compared to one that is worn, damaged, or has missing parts. Appraisers will examine the piece for any signs of wear and tear, scratches, dents, or any repairs that may have been done. They may also consider the overall appearance and any modifications made to the original design. In some cases, repairs or renovations might improve the condition and value, while in others, they might detract from the piece’s originality. Hence, the overall condition of the jewellery will be taken into consideration, as each piece is totally unique.

Market Demand

Market demand plays a crucial role in jewellery appraisal. The value of a piece is ultimately determined by what buyers are willing to pay for it in the current market. When there is a high demand for a specific style or design, the value of that piece is likely to be higher. Our appraisers stay updated with the latest market trends and demands so we can provide you with an accurate and up-to-date valuation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Jewellery Appraisals

Is there a fee for the online jewellery evaluation?

No. Our online jewellery valuation service is totally free and results in a preliminary assessment report and evaluation estimate. Customers are welcome to bring their jewellery to any Maxi-Cash outlet for a more in-depth appraisal and final quote by our expert appraisers. Any other transactions regarding appraised jewellery will also need to be completed in-store.

How accurate is the online jewellery evaluation?

Our online jewellery valuation is based on the information and photographs provided by the customer in the appraisal form. As such, we can only provide a preliminary assessment and quote. Customers are welcome to visit our outlets to receive a more thorough assessment and evaluation, as well as a final quote.

Why might the online estimate differ from the in-store evaluation?

The main factor differentiating our online jewellery appraisal estimate from an in-store evaluation is that the former only relies on digital information and photos submitted to us. As such, our appraisers may not be privy to certain unique or distinguishing features that could enhance your piece’s value. We recommend bringing your piece in for a secondary appraisal in-store to obtain a more accurate valuation and report.

Do I need to commit to selling my jewellery after receiving an evaluation?

No, you are not obligated to sell your jewellery after receiving a valuation. Our free online appraisal is intended to give customers an idea of what their pre-loved jewellerybags, or timepieces are worth. If you wish to have a more accurate appraisal carried out, visit any Maxi-Cash outlet near you to engage our services in person.

Can I get my jewellery item re-evaluated in the future?

Yes, you can and should get your jewellery item re-evaluated in the future. It is actually recommended to have periodic re-evaluations to ensure that the valuation reflects its current market value. Factors such as market trends, inflation, and rarity (or trendiness) can all affect the value of a piece. By getting your jewellery re-evaluated, you can ensure that you have an accurate valuation of your precious item for insurance purposes or for selling and trading purposes.
